6-year-old adopted boy changes name to Trevor after Trevor Lawrence

A six-year-old boy in Charleston changed his name to Trevor after his adoption in honor of former Clemson legend Trevor Lawrence.

Former Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence is an inspiration to many thanks to his play on the football field and his character off of it. For one young Clemson fan, his example inspired a name change.

When six-year-old Rashad was adopted into the Tahquette family in Charleston, he took the opportunity to change his first name as well as his last. He now goes by Trevor Rashad Tahquette in honor of his favorite Tiger.

“We had no idea that he wanted to go by Trevor until the adoption,” Brandon Tahquette told TigerNet. “We thought he was going to say Trevor because he wanted to be like TLaw, but we would still call him Rashad because he had been Rashad for six years. And that’s who I know him as. And he was like, ‘No, I am Trevor. I am going to be Trevor.’ He just wants a complete break from all of the other stuff from before.”

TigerNet added that Dabo Swinney’s brother sent the family two prints signed by Lawrence when he heard about the name change.

Trevor Lawrence was floored by a young fan’s name change

True to form, Lawrence had a gracious response to young Trevor’s decision on Twitter.

Just like Lawrence said, this is the kind of story that should remind everyone about the joy of sports. The games may start and end on Saturdays in the fall, but college football has a larger impact that extends well beyond those hours. It’s how we connect with family and friends.
