Kyle Shanahan shares hilarious beer story with Trey Lance

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan shared a priceless story of when he almost illegally gave Trey Lance a cold one.

Sometimes we forget just how young some of the biggest names in the NFL are. Take Trey Lance for example. The San Francisco 49ers first-round pick is the signal-caller of the future for Kyle Shanahan, yet he just turned 21 years old this offseason.

Seriously? Millions of guys out there are jealous of this kid’s situation. As for Shanahan, he was reminded of how young Lance is in the best way possible. Shanahan shared a story of when he first met the quarterback and was getting ready to offer him a beer. At the time, though, Lance was still underage. Crisis averted.

Kyle Shanahan’s story of nearly offering Trey Lance a beer is pure gold

If you’re a 49ers’ fan, that story simply has to make you laugh. Had Shanahan indeed offered Lance a beer, it would have been quite the moment. What would Lance have done? Accepted it and taken the risk, or let his coach know they’re about to break the law. Either way it would have been pretty damn funny.

With those beer mishaps in the past – and Lance now legal to drink some adult beverages if he pleases – the focus is now on Week 1 of the 2021 campaign. While Jimmy Garoppolo figures to be the starter to open things against the Detroit Lions on the road, Lance’s number could be called sooner than later.

If Garoppolo either injures himself or plays inconsistently, Shanahan may not wait too long to put the rookie in. And it goes without saying, but Shanahan will be more than ready to buy him a beer after he records his first win with the organization too.
