Steelers insider reveals why coaching staff is upset with Kevin Dotson

According to a report out of Pittsburgh, the Steelers coaches are not happy whatsoever with offensive guard Kevin Dotson this offseason.

There’s been plenty of drama for the Pittsburgh Steelers in recent months and it doesn’t look like things are close to ending. That’s because the coaching staff is none too pleased with offensive guard Kevin Dotson?

The 6-foot-4, 320-pounder appeared in 13 games as a rookie last season, making four starts. He’s expected to make a big jump in his second year. According to Dejan Kovacevic of DK Pittsburgh Sports, however, a source told him the staff is upset with Dotson for taking it easy this offseason and not grinding in preparation for the ’21 campaign.

“The Steelers coaches are plenty angry with Dotson over his not having done anything [over the offseason],” Kovacevic said. “And the reason the Steelers brought Trai Turner in for that first visit a week before David DeCastro was released had nothing to do with DeCastro; it had everything to do with Dotson. It was just assumed – I really feel this – by almost everybody, that Dotson had this thing locked up. Well, guess what? Dotson apparently thought the same and responded accordingly.”

The Steelers of course went out and signed former Pro Bowl guard Trai Turner, exciting fans and seemingly shoring up a stout offensive line in front of Big Ben.

Per Kovacevic, part of the reason they went out and grabbed him was that Dotson wasn’t stepping up. However, multiple people are defending Dotson, including respected trainer Duke Manyweather.

Moving forward, perhaps this latest report from DK Pittsburgh Sports will push Dotson even more for his training in the coming months. With this story being shared by so many, countless eyes will be on Dotson come Week 1 to see if he’ll be ready to make plays in the trenches or not.
