World Junior Curling Championships 2022: Results, standings, schedule and TV channel

The future of the world of curling is on full display this week in Sweden, home of the 2022 World Junior Curling Championships. The best curlers 21 and younger are set to compete in the annual tournament. There are 10 teams competing in both the men’s and women’s tournaments. 

Some of the world’s best curlers debuted at the World Junior Curling Championships. Niklas Edin, Bruce Mouat, and Brad Gushue all won the men’s tournament at some point in its history, while Anna Hasselborg, Eve Muirhead, and Silvana Tirinzoni are past champions on the women’s side.

When is the 2022 World Junior Curling Championships?

This tournament began on Sunday, May 15, with the finals set to take place on Sunday, May 22. 

The round-robin play begins on May 15, and it lasts for five days until May 20. The semifinals take place on May 21, with the finals on May 22. 

What channel is the 2022 World Junior Curling Championships?

The 2022 World Junior Curling Championships will not be broadcast on TV. 

Instead, fans of the event can watch it on either World Curling TV or The Curling Channel through CurlCast

World Curling TV will broadcast 16 games throughout the tournament. Selected sheets during all sessions will be available to view on The Curling Channel. Those games do not include commentary.

Where is the 2022 World Junior Curling Championships taking place?

The tournament is hosted in Jönköping, Sweden at the Jönköping Curling Club.

It is the first time the city has hosted the tournament and fourth time it has been held in Sweden. The previous three times all took place in Östersund.  

Who can compete in the World Junior Curling Championships?

The World Junior Curling Championships are an annual curling tournament that features the best curlers who are 21 years old or younger from around the world.

There are tournaments for both men and women. The men’s tournament started in 1975 and the women’s has occurred since 1988.

Who won the last World Junior Curling Championships?

Entering the 2022 bonspiel, Canada is the reigning champs on both sides. 

For the men, Canada enters this year with a chance at a four-peat. Tyler Tardi’s team won in 2018 and 2019, and Jacques Gauthier led his team to win in 2020. 

For the women, Mackenzie Zacharias is the most recent champion, winning in 2020. 

In total, Canada has the most gold medals for both the men’s and women’s tables with 21 men’s wins and 13 women’s wins.
