Selena Gomez slipped into a white sequin wedding dress for the Emmys on Monday night, proving that even the most extravagant outfits can be worn on more than one occasion. Skipping the red carpet, the “Only Murders in the Building” star headed straight for the stage alongside her costars Steve Martin and Martin Short to present the Emmy for variety talk series. While all three stars were nominated for their roles in the mystery-comedy show, our attention was fully on Gomez’s glistening wedding gown by Rotate.
The halter dress, constructed from bright white polyester, bore a striking resemblance to the retro 16Arlington halter dress with white feather trim that Gomez wore for her 30th birthday party in July. Separating the design from other pieces in her wardrobe were the subtle side slits that went up to her mid thigh and the sparkling white sequins that dripped all the way down to her strappy platform heels. Styled by Kate Young, Gomez paired the dress with diamond and emerald jewelry by Boucheron.
While some viewers pointed out that Gomez’s slip was bunched up under her dress, the actor gracefully handled the wardrobe malfunction and carried on with presenting alongside her “OMITB” costars.
The “Calm Down” co-singer, who recently debuted a Y2K hairstyle on TikTok, has been leaning into the corset trend over the last few weeks, another shout-out to the early aughts. But wedding bells or not, her floor-length evening gown with a halter neckline might be our favorite nod to the 2000s yet.
