Tiger Woods’ quest for a sixth green jacket has come to an untimely end.

Prior to the resumption of Round 3 in the 2023 Masters on Sunday, Woods announced he has withdrawn from the tournament due to plantar fasciitis.

Woods took to Twitter to let the golf world know of the decision:

“I am disappointed to have to WD this morning due to reaggravating my plantar fasciitis. Thank you to the fans and to @TheMasters who have shown me so much love and support. Good luck to the players today!” Woods tweeted on Sunday morning.

Woods made his return to the Masters with hopes that he’d have, at least, a representative finish at Augusta. Instead, he shot 9-over through seven holes in Round 3 before the horn sounded Saturday after completing his second round earlier in the day. In 2022, Woods finished in 47th. Woods finished ahead of the cut line (three over par) but a 6-over in Round 3 through six holes meant he was finishing far out of contention for a title, top 10 or even top 25.

Since returning from a devastating car accident in 2022, Woods is still searching for his first tournament victory. During his media availability prior to the start of the Masters, Woods acknowledged that his health, particularly in his surgically reconstructed leg, isn’t what it used to be.

Woods also acknowledged that his final Masters is soon approaching.

“I don’t know how many more I have in me,” he said during his press conference.

Weather has wreaked havoc on the 2023 Masters, with both the second and third rounds postponed due to storms, with several trees felled on Friday and Saturday.

When Round 3 play resumed on Easter Sunday, Brooks Koepka paced the field at 13-under, with Jon Rahm 9-under.
