Bruins record tracker: Boston sets NHL mark for most wins a season with 63rd victory

Sports

The Bruins have been a wagon all year long, and the team now has a place in NHL history.

Boston broke the NHL record for most wins a season, securing victory No. 63 on Sunday night against the Flyers. The win broke the mark previously achieved by the 1995-96 Red Wings and 2018-19 Lightning

Not only did Boston beat that record, but the team may also set a new NHL record for most points in a season. The Bruins sit one point away from tying the record with two games still on the schedule.

The 2022-23 season has been magical for Jim Montgomery’s crew. The team set a new franchise record for the most points in a season, surpassing the previous total of 121, which was set by the 1970-71 team. The club also broke the club mark for wins in a season, previously set at 57 by the 1970-71 Bruins.

In addition, this year’s Boston team is just the fourth team in NHL history to secure 60 wins in a season.

It’s no surprise to anyone that has being attention from the start. From Linus Ullmark’s Vezina campaign to David Pastrnak’s first 100-point season, everything has been going right for the Bruins.

Boston clinched the Presidents’ Trophy for the best record in the NHL with seven games left on the schedule. They are the fastest team to 100 points in league history, and the quickest club ever to secure 50 wins in a year as well.

Of course, if you ask any of the members of the organization, they couldn’t care less about anything that’s not called the Stanley Cup.

“People have talked a lot about some of these records, that we could potentially hit or we have hit,” Brad Marchand said in an interview with ESPN. “Nobody cares about those in this room. We could care less about any of these regular-season records. Because they really don’t mean anything.”
