Josh McDaniels responds to Davante Adams’ criticism of Raiders offense: ‘I don’t think there’s much drama here’

Nothing but respect between Josh McDaniels and his star receiver.

Davante Adams didn’t seem too pleased with the direction of the Raiders and the team’s offense after the offseason QB switch from Derek Carr to Jimmy Garoppolo, according to his own words in a recent profile from The Ringer. Josh McDaniels, though, is totally cool with what Adams had to say.

Speaking with media on Thursday, McDaniels said that the All-Pro receiver has “earned” the right to voice his concerns, saying that there’s not much “drama” involved with Adams and his comments.

“‘Te and I have a great relationship,  I know he does with (GM) Dave (Ziegler) as well, he’s here everyday,” McDaniels said Thursday. “I didn’t read the whole thing, so I didn’t really know exactly every nook and cranny of that, but I don’t think there’s much drama here in terms of my relationship, his relationship with us, the way he works, the way he goes about his business.”

McDaniels added that the two have talked, and that certain players on the team “have an opinion and a voice because they’ve earned it.”

“I respect the hell out of anything that they (the players) would say or suggest or anything like that over the course of the process of trying to improve our team,” McDaniels said. “I know here Davante comes from, he’s a competitor, he wants to win, that’s his sole focus.”

Entering Year 2 with the Raiders, Adams will be getting the ball from someone who isn’t Carr or Aaron Rodgers for the first time in his career, with Garoppolo set to take the QB1 role this year.

While it seems all good on both sides for now, we’ll see if the “respect” factor takes the hit if the Raiders stumble out of the gate.
