Was Vasiliy Lomachenko robbed? What’s next for Katie Taylor? Post-fight breakdown on the latest Fightin’ Words

Last Saturday (May 20) saw the best of boxing, with undisputed titles defended throughout the day. It also saw debates regarding age, outcomes, and the future of the fighters competing.

The first fight of the weekend saw Chantelle Cameron beating Katie Taylor to retain the undisputed super lightweight titles. Taylor, the undisputed lightweight champion, was brutalized by Cameron, who avenged a loss 10+ years in the making.

What’s next for Taylor? Should she go for the rematch, or would it be similar to everyone’s thoughts on a potential Canelo Alvarez vs. Dmitry Bivol sequel? Cameron, like Bivol, had the size, style, and age advantage. Taylor has a warrior’s heart, but will that come back to bite her in a rematch? Or should she go to the original booking decision of an Amanda Serrano rematch?

In her quest for greatness, what’s the best decision for Taylor?

Then there’s Devin Haney beating Vasiliy Lomachenko to remain undisputed lightweight champion. Haney won via unanimous decision. The majority of boxing did not agree with the scoring. Did Lomachenko get robbed, or was this fight fans seeing what they wanted to see and scoring it based on that? A robbery is when someone has an edge, but the judges and scorecards show the opposite. It would be like if Timothy Bradley beat Manny Pacquiao or if Floyd Mayweather vs. Canelo Alvarez got scored a draw.

Did either fighter prove they are better than the other? What about Haney? Is he deserving of being called undisputed champion, or are doubts over his reign and status in boxing justified? A rematch against Lomachenko, who is appealing the loss, may be something Haney may look into to prove doubters wrong. He may also be proving something to himself. Speaking of the Ukrainian, if Lomachenko gets the rematch, can he repeat his performance and get the job done this time?

How did you score Haney vs. Lomachenko?

Going back to a potential robbery, is there something that needs to be done about the ten-point scoring system in boxing? The sport often gets in its way due to questionable scorecards in obvious outcomes. Is it time for judges to interact with media members to explain the reasoning for their scores?

On this episode of Fightin’ Words, The Sporting News’ Andreas HaleKarisa Maxwell, and Tom Gray discuss these topics and more!
