Women’s College World Series finals 2023: TV schedule, scores for Oklahoma vs. FSU in NCAA softball championship

The Women’s College World Series has come down to a pair of powerhouse programs.

Playing for a title is nothing new to Oklahoma or Florida State. The Sooners are coming off two straight title wins and three straight appearances in the national championship series. The Seminoles have made it to the final round in 2018, when they won the national championship, and in 2021, when they fell to the Sooners in two games.

The two programs are back in the WCWS finals, with each looking to cap off standout seasons that have seen the two teams each near the 60-win threshold.

Hoping to catch the 2023 College World Series finals? Here’s what you need to watch the series between Oklahoma and Florida State.

Who is in the Women’s College World Series finals?

Oklahoma has been at the center of the college softball world for the past two years. The Sooners have already won back-to-back national championships, and somehow might be even better than they were last year and the year before when they combined to go 115-7. A third straight national championship would match 1988-90 UCLA as the most titles in a row.

In 2023, the Sooners have gone 59-1 heading into the Women’s College World Series finals. They are riding a 51-game winning streak, the longest streak in Division I history. Only a 4-3 loss to Baylor on Feb. 19 has separated the Sooners from an undefeated campaign.

Oklahoma has four batters in the lineup batting at least .400. As a team, the pitching staff has a combined 0.98 ERA, with Nicole May and Jordy Bahl, the team’s most used arms, boasting ERAs of 0.91 and 0.97.

In just about any other year, Florida State would be viewed as a juggernaut in softball. The No. 3 Seminoles have rolled through the NCAA tournament, having won six straight games since a regional loss to South Carolina, and enter the game boasting a 58-9 record.

The Seminoles have combined standout pitching with prolific hitting. Florida State has outscored its opponents 403-140 this season. Both pitchers with at least 70 innings — Kathryn Sandercock and Makenna Reid — have ERAs below 1.10, while five batters with at least 150 at bats have recorded batting averages above .300.

Florida State is seeking to avenge its 2021 College World Series loss to the Sooners, and is hoping to win the program’s second national championship after the 2018 title.
