Will Shreyas Iyer play further part in Asia Cup 2023?

While the uncertainty loomed on Shreyas Iyer’s fitness, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has cleared the air on this, declaring that the star batter will not be available for the clash against Sri Lanka, scheduled on September 12 at R. Premadasa Stadium.

The BCCI has updated that although Shreyas is recovering, he has been advised rest by the medical team.

Shreyas started experiencing back spasms just before the toss of the India-Pakistan fixture. As a result of which, KL Rahul was included in the playing XI in his place.

Shreyas Iyer’s tryst with injuries

The 28-year-old had just made a comeback after a long injury lay-off. He missed out on numerous series and after just playing two matches in the Asia Cup 2023 against Pakistan and Nepal respectively, he has again found himself in the midst of another fitness concern.

Coming to bat at number four, he scored 14 runs versus Pakistan in the group stage tie.

When will Shreyas Iyer be available for the upcoming Asia Cup matches?

Although there is no confirmation on this, we are unlikely to see Iyer taking any further part in the ongoing Asia Cup. The competition is fast-paced and India might not want to take risk with him.

Even if he recovers, the team management may not pick him as both Rahul and Kishan are running in good form.
